Organize a Conversation for Campus Sustainability Day
|
Step One: Recruit ParticipantsHost an on-campus conversation
Contact your institution's administrators, provost, president, faculty, student groups, and community organizations to join you in the conversation. Be sure to secure a space and time on campus early to host your conversation, and advertise broadly! Or, host a regional conversation
|
Step Two: Register Your EventRegister your event on the AASHE Calendar so others can join, and so that we have a record of all the events happening on this historical day! Even if you are hosting a conversation for your campus only, please register remember to your event.

|
Step Three: Host the ConversationBe creative and specific. Think big. Allow for participation from all attendees, and focus on finding solutions. Your conversations can lead to new ideas, new connections, and better solutions for students' education and preparedness to lead a just and sustainable society.
Use these questions to guide the conversation:
What is your commitment? At the end of your conversation, is your campus ready to make a commitment? What does your campus commit to doing in order to ensure students are prepared for a changing climate? Campuses/regions are encouraged to make a tangible commitment for next steps at the end of the conversation. These commitments will be used as part of the Best Practices document that student leaders will create following the events. |
Step Four: Submit Your NotesBe sure to have your student liaison submit your notes after the event. Students will be asked to submit notes for each of the guiding questions, and text for a commitment if your group has made one. In November and December 2012, these student liaisons will work with Second Nature to produce the final guiding document from all national conversations after Campus Sustainability Day 2012, "Best Practices for Preparing Students for a Changing Climate."
